TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK
Tongan Language Week this year focused on music being an integral part of the Tongan culture. We were fortunate this year to have the Tongan Cultural Group from Alfriston College, led by former RPS students Theodora Vakalahi and Toatepi Ma’ake join us at our assembly hosted by Rooms 6 and 32.
It was a great It was a great celebration of the Tongan culture.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Our regular attendance last week was up slightly to 58.6%.
Every day at school counts! If your child misses one day every fortnight, it might not seem like much, but over a year that adds up to 20 days of school missed – that’s about 4 weeks of learning.
Leaving school early also adds up. Signing your child out early can count as a half-day absence. If this happens once every fortnight, that can add up to 5 full days of learning, missed over the year. If your child is attending a medical, dental, or specialist appointment, please provide confirmation of the appointment so we can record the absence using the correct Ministry of Education attendance code.
Congratulations to Kotahitanga, our winning attendance house again last week! Room 22 were back on top with the highest regular class attendance across the school. They are both setting a very hard target to beat! Well done to Hosanna from Room 23 and Yoneli from Room 18, our lucky LEGO winners from Kotahitanga.

MĀORI BILINGUAL EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Yesterday a survey was sent home with the eldest or only child of each whānau. We would like to gauge interest in a Māori bilingual unit at Randwick Park School. At this stage, this is simply an initial expression of interest to help us understand the level of demand and inform our planning. We ask whānau to please complete the survey and return this to classroom teachers by Friday 28 August 3pm. If you require another copy or have any questions, please see our office staff.

TERM 3 WHĀNAU SURVEY
Whānau voice is very important to us. At each Te Hui Ako, we invite whānau to share their feedback on different aspects of Randwick Park School. This feedback helps us review our processes and reflect on how we operate as a school. This term, we had 134 surveys completed, giving us a snapshot of whānau views. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts, we really appreciate your input.

AUCKLAND MATHEX COMPETITION
Last Thursday evening, four Mathex teams (two Year 7 teams, and two Year 8 teams) represented Randwick Park School at the Auckland Mathex Competition at the Barfoot & Thompson Arena in Kohimarama. Mathex is a fun, fast-paced Maths challenge where students work in teams of four to answer twenty Maths problems in 30 minutes. Our teams showed incredible teamwork and resilience throughout the challenge, even when faced with difficult mathematical problems to solve. We are so proud of all our students for their commitment to training throughout the year and their efforts on the night. Well done to all of you!

REHU TAI YR 5-6 SPEECH FINALS
Last Wednesday, our three Year 5–6 Rehu Tai winners competed in the Manurewa Year 5–6 Rehu Tai finals at Reremoana School.
Sione (Flash Talk) and Lynaeia (Rap) both delivered superb performances, but with an exceptionally high standard of competition, they narrowly missed out on a top-three placing.
Our result of the day came from Cairo, who secured third place in a very strong field of 12 traditional speeches. This is always the largest category, making Cairo’s top-three finish an outstanding achievement.

PRE-AIMS NETBALL TOURNAMNETS
Our AIMS netball team has been busy competing in several pre-AIMS tournaments over the past few weeks, including three Sunday tournaments and one Wednesday tournament. These games have provided valuable experience and game time as the team prepares for the AIMS Games in Tauranga in just two weeks.
The girls have also been competing in the weekly Auckland Intermediate competition on Tuesday nights, which includes 78 teams. Playing in the top grade, they have had an excellent season and will play their final game tomorrow for 3rd/4th place overall.

VOLLEYBALL – YEAR 5-6
Our Year 5/6 volleyball teams competed today against 27 teams from across Manurewa. Our A team finished 5th overall after a narrow quarter-final loss, before coming back strongly to win their final two games. Our B team had three wins and two losses, finishing 3rd in their pool. All players improved throughout the day and should be proud of their performances. A huge thank you to Mr Tui and Mr Logan for coaching our teams!

COUNTIES ZONE NETBALL FINALS
Last Tuesday the Year 7 and Year 8 Boys’ Netball teams competed at the Counties Zone finals.
The Year 7 boys played in a round robin format. They had good wins against Rosehill Intermediate and Pukekohe Intermediate, a draw against Manurewa Intermediate and a loss to Clendon Park. After a points differential count back, they secured a second placing.
Our Year 8 boys played in a pool play format. They defeated Red Hill School, Pukekohe Intermediate and Greenmeadows Intermediate in pool play. They won their semifinal against Manurewa Intermediate 12-4, before losing the final against Clendon Park.
This means that both teams have qualified for the Auckland Interzone Finals next week. This is the first time we have qualified two teams for the boys’ division of the finals!

LEAGUE – YEAR 7/8
Last week we had three teams enter the Central Counties League tournament. The Boys’ Under 55kg team placed second, Girls’ Open Weight placed second and Boys’ Open Weight team were unbeaten throughout the day, before defeating Wiri Central in the final.

We have ManaKids health nurses onsite daily. They can see your tamariki for :
